Tips for keeping your skin looking fresh and glowing this winter. While Halloween often brin

As people get older, the effects of gravity, exposure to the wind and sun, and the stresses of life and smoking, can be seen in their faces. Deep folds can form between the nose and mouth; the jowls begin to form and fat deposits move into undesirable positions, obscuring the jawline and making the face appear “SQUARE”. The neck can also become an area where fat depostis become fuller under the middle of the jaw or “bands” can form in your neck, making you look older and loosing your youthful characteristics. Occasionally facial hollowing appears, especially in the temple areas and sometimes in the midface or cheeks and under the eyes. This is known collectively as the “Aging Process”.

While no-one can stop this aging process, what a facelift can do is “set the clock back”. The “facelift” can improve the most visible signs of aging by tightening underlying muscles and pulling your jowls off your jaw-line, (removing that square-face look) and redraping the skin of your face and neck and removing the excess. In addition, by removing excess fat from under your neck, and in some areas replacing fat, a youthful shape is restored. This is usally done in the mid-face cheek area and the temples, and sometimes even placing fat back in the upper lid area to camoflague the boney part above your eye, giving your eyes back their youthful appearance.  A facelift can be done alone, or in conjunction with other procedures, such as a necklift, forehead lift, fat injections(your own fat is used), eyelid surgery, or nose reshaping.

The best candidate for a facelift is a man or woman whose face and neck have begun to sag, but whose skin still has some elasticity and whose bone structure is strong and well-defined. Most patients are in their forties to sixties, but facelifts can be done successfully on people in their seventies or eighties as well.

A facelift can make you look younger and fresher and when its done properly, with minimal visible scarring. These procedures can enhance your self-confidence.  The incisions must be meticulously placed and closed with minimal tension to avoid visible, widened scars, which would be visible after the surgery.

Choice of anesthesia can be either gentle sedation or complete general anesthesia. This choice would be made keeping in mind your overall medical health and conditions, procedures being done, time expected in the operating room and your own particular desires and level of comfort desired.

In the medical world, the fat injection procedure is known as autologous fat transplantation or microlipoinjection. It involves extracting fat cells from the patient’s abdomen, thighs, buttocks or elsewhere and reinjecting them beneath the facial skin. Fat is most often used to fill in “sunken” cheeks or laugh lines between the nose and mouth, to correct skin depressions or indentations, to minimize forehead wrinkles and to enhance the lips. This technique is now “standard” for Dr. Kallman during his facelift procedures, to restore that youthful volume, you once had. Through painstaking review of thousands of patient photographs, he has identified the curious pattern of “fat aging”. This concept creates the basis for the restoration and replenishment of fat in certain areas. This allows Dr. Kallman to restore a youthful appearance to your face, while maintaining the balance of areas and not creating the stigmata of a facelift. No-one wants to hear the comment, “Who did your facelift?” He feels it’s better to be asked, “Gosh, you look terrific. Where did you go on vacation?” This procedure can be done under sedation, as an isolated intervention and can turn back the clock of your facial aging, in less than a couple of hours of your time. Dr. Kallman believes this may be the, “MOST IMPORTANT” factor in restoring a youthful appearance. Come visit Dr. Kallman at his “Brand New” Miami office or Hollywood office and see for yourself the wonders of this technique.

Rhinoplasty, or nasal surgery to reshape the nose, is one of the most difficult procedures that any plastic surgeons can do. Rhinoplasty is designed to increase or decrease the size of your nose, change the shape of the tip or the bridge, narrow the span of the nostrils, or change the angle between your nose and your upper lip. It should include a thorough check of blocked breathing passages that may have been the result of accidents or something you were born with. It can also correct a birth defect or injury. Reshaping the nose is a delicate process that requires experience and tremendous skill. Dr. Brandon Kallman possesses such abilities. Dr. Kallman has been featured at many educational symposia and has been asked to speak on Rhinoplasty at many of the U.S. top universities.

The best candidates for rhinoplasty are people who are looking for improvement, not perfection, in the way they look. If you’re physically healthy, psychologically stable, and realistic in your expectations, you may be a good candidate. Rhinoplasty can be performed to meet aesthetic goals or for reconstructive purposes to correct birth defects or breathing problems. Dr. Kallman has also become a trusted source for repair of “less than desirable results”. He has helped many patients regain their confidence using a variety of complex techniques developed over many years of practice. Restoring the beauty of a natural result, and not a “done looking appearance” to the nose, is the part of the surgery that requires a keen eye and sense of balance. This sense of equilibrium, is that gift, that few surgeons possess, like Dr. Kallman. When it comes to rhinoplasty, he IS a true artist!

Most people who are in good overall physical and mental health may undergo rhinoplasty, although young patients may need to wait until their noses are finished growing. It’s important to consider teenagers’ social and emotional adjustment, too, and to make sure it’s what they, and not their parents, really want.

When choosing a rhinoplasty surgeon, it is important to select a doctor with skill and experience. Dr. Brandon Kallman can help you create a nose that fits in with your other features and looks natural. He can also help you understand the benefits and limitations of rhinoplasty, so you can make the decision that is right for you.  He analyzes your face during the consultation with the help of digital images and computer software, and brings to life some of those changes that can be made.

Eyelid surgery (technically called blepharoplasty) is a procedure to remove fat–usually along with excess skin and muscle from the upper and lower eyelids. Eyelid surgery can correct drooping upper lids and puffy bags below your eyes – features that make you look older and more tired than you feel, and may even interfere with your vision. However, it won’t remove crow’s feet or other wrinkles, eliminate dark circles under your eyes, or lift sagging eyebrows. While it can add an upper eyelid crease to Asian eyes, it will not erase evidence of your ethnic or racial heritage. Blepharoplasty can be done alone, or in conjunction with other facial surgery procedures such as a facelift or browlift.

The best candidates for eyelid surgery are men and women who are physically healthy, psychologically stable, and realistic in their expectations. Most are 35 or older, but if droopy, baggy eyelids run in your family, you may decide to have eyelid surgery at a younger age. A few medical conditions make blepharoplasty more risky. These include thyroid problems such as hypothyroidism and Graves’ disease, dry eye or lack of sufficient tears, high blood pressure or other circulatory disorders, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes. A detached retina or glaucoma is also a reason for caution; we may ask you to check with your ophthalmologist before you have surgery.

Dr. Brandon Kallman is a well-respected eyelid surgery practitioner and he can help you review your options and make the right decision about eyelid surgery.

A forehead lift or “browlift” is a procedure that restores a more youthful, refreshed look to the area above the eyes. The procedure corrects drooping brows and improves the horizontal lines and furrows that can make a person appear angry, sad or tired.

In a forehead lift, the muscles and tissues that cause the furrowing or drooping are altered to smooth the forehead, raise the eyebrows and minimize frown lines. You may use the conventional surgical method, in which the incision is hidden just behind the hairline; or it may be performed with the use of an endoscope, a viewing instrument that allows the procedure to be performed with minimal incisions. Both techniques yield similar results – smoother forehead skin and a more youthful outlook. Dr. Kallman has also perfected a technique which utilizes a hidden scar from the upper eyelid, and lifts the brow from that incision. This leaves you with a beautiful positioned brow and virtually no visible scarring or hair-loss.

A forehead lift is most commonly performed in the 40-60 age range to minimize the visible effects of aging. However, it can also help people of any age who have developed furrows or frown lines due to stress or muscle activity.

Dr. Brandon Kallman’s expert techniques and experience make him well suited to perform your procedure. Please contact Dr. Kallman today to learn more about a browlift or to schedule for a consultation at his Miami or Hollywood office.

Ear Reshaping (technically called Otoplasty) corrects prominent or protruding ears and sets them back closer to the head or reduces them in size. This procedure is performed on children as early as five years of age, but people of almost any age are candidates for ear reshaping. By five, the ear cartilage has grown to nearly adult size and is resilient enough to support corrective surgery.

We use special suture techniques to reshape the ear cartilages into a natural shape. These techniques are well established and time-proven. You may never think about your ears. But if you do, otoplasty can give you, or your child, gratifying, permanent results quickly and effectively.

Chin surgery, also known as genioplasty, is a surgical procedure to reshape the chin either by enhancement with an implant or reduction surgery on the bone. Many times, chin surgery may be recommended to a patient having nose surgery in order to achieve facial proportion, as the size of the chin may magnify or minimize the perceived size of the nose.

Chin surgery helps provide a harmonious balance to your facial features, so that you feel better about the way you look.
